Think of Santa Monica, but Dutch. Did you know that the Hague resembles Santa Monica in more ways than you’d expect? If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself!!
Santa Monica The Hague
Personally I can’t tell them apart! Now that the weather gets warmer, the Hague is the perfect destination for a sunny day trip. Only an hour away from Amsterdam by train, the Hague is the perfect getaway for a relaxed day by the sea. And if the beach vibes weren't enough to remind you of the US, the Hague even has a Taco Bell. Every time my friends and I visit the Hague, we always go there for a quick treat. Not only that, being the third largest city of the Netherlands, the Hague offers numerous shops, cafés, restaurants and cool spots to wander through, whether you're window shopping or just looking for your next coffee or lunch stop.
After you’ve gotten a taste of exploring the city you can ride a historic tram from the 1950s in order to reach the beach. This classic tram route not only provides a charming ride but also passes by several of the Hague's iconic landmarks, including the Peace Palace (an international law administrative building in the Hague) and Madurodam (a city full of beautiful miniatures, activities and attractions) . It's a lovely and unique way to experience the city's rich history and beauty.

Once you reach Scheveningen Beach, there are numerous activities that you can do by the beach. Whether you're into thrills, culture, or just chilling by the sea, Scheveningen Beach has something for everyone. You can grab a drink or have a meal at one of the many beach bars offering a stunning sea view. If you like adventures, there's bungee jumping and a zipline along the coast offering great adrenaline-charge. Are you interested in marine life? If that is the case, you can visit the Sea Life Scheveningen, an aquarium where you can explore the underwater world. For a dose of culture you can visit the Museum Beelden aan Zee (Museum of Images at the Sea), known for its modern sculpture exhibits. And if you're into water sports, Scheveningen beach is a local hotspot for surfing and paddleboarding. Last but not least, if you want to just relax, you can take a peaceful walk along the sand, enjoy the breeze and watch people skating by the coastline.
By the end of the day, the Hague leaves you feeling like you've been on vacation without ever leaving the country. So whether you're chasing the sun, craving some culture, or just looking for a quick escape from Amsterdam, the Hague is the ideal destination.
I hope you enjoyed the blog and that it inspired you to plan a fun little escape to the Hague:)
