Amsterdam is a city that knows how to satisfy a sweet tooth, and whether you’re strolling along the canals or exploring its charming neighbourhoods, there’s always a delicious treat waiting for you. Let’s take a journey through three of the cosiest, most irresistible dessert spots in the city, each with its own unique charm and flavours that will leave you craving more!
Winkel 43

In the heart of the Jordaan district, Winkel 43 feels like stepping into a warm, welcoming Dutch home, one that happens to serve what many call the best apple pie in Amsterdam. This place serves a flavourful pie, with a good crust and whipped cream on top! The cafe buzzes with life, filled with locals catching up over coffee and tourists savouring their first bite of this iconic dessert. When we first went to this place with my friend, we were surprised how fast the pie came to us! Because of its popularity, one usually needs to wait for a line, however, the pie is definitely worth the wait!
BunBun

In a little shop right next to Winkel 43, this place offers a variety of crusty cinnamon buns, each with its own unique taste and texture. As in the picture, me and my friend tried a pistachio, chocolate, classic, and the cheesecake version of these buns, and as they all have their own charm, our favourite was the classic and cheesecake one as the others were a bit too sweet for our taste, however, if you are a sweet tooth and would love a sweet treat you can indulge in, the others might be perfect for you!
Saint-Jean Bakery

Also in the Jordaan district, this patisserie is known for serving the best vegan pastries in Amsterdam! The pistachio roll is a must-try as it is flaky, nutty, and perfectly sweet. The coffee is just as good, it goes well with the sweetness of the treats and offers you a peek at both worlds of the sensation! Apart from their sweets, I think this bakery is the best place to just wind down or take a little break as it has a calm atmosphere and helps a lot if you just want a little getaway. Moreover, everything is plant-based, so it is vegan and dairy-free, which might be good qualities to consider if you are looking for desserts with these alternatives!
From the nostalgic comfort of Winkel 43’s apple pie to the refined elegance of Saint Jean’s pastries and the crispy charm of BunBun’s buns, Amsterdam proves that great desserts aren’t just food, they’re little moments of happiness. So next time you’re wandering the city, let your sweet tooth lead the way. After all, life’s too short to skip dessert!
Wishing everyone a happy indulging!
